Why 5S

 

5s is an important tool, because this 5-step method ensures that deviations on the shop floor become visually discernible and at the same time a joint responsibility is being worked on. As a result, daily feedback visibly improves both productivity and quality, and contributes to a more pleasant working environment that increases employee satisfaction. 5s is the basis for a stable working environment.

 

 In short, 5S is a method of arranging and organising workplaces and spaces. A well-organised workplace contributes to 4 important indicators of a company: safety, customer satisfaction, efficiency and employee satisfaction. The focus on eliminating waste is activated by 5S. For example, waste such as waiting or searching for information, tools or materials is eliminated. This elimination contributes to a more efficient production process.

 

5S is a method that involves entire departments in the process and immediately shows visible positive differences such as an improved layout of the shop floor within a few days. The power of 5S especially lies in the longer term, because it is not a trick ready in a few days. 5S must be duly anchored in the operational consultations and their management in order to be successful. That is exactly where we make the difference with our approach. For the anchoring phase we have developed a special 5s App and Safety App.

We select the things we don't or hardly use. We use a red label for this. The components are also separated directly from each other. Ask yourself the question: what do we use a lot, a little or never? These can, of course, also be documents in a cabinet or in a digital folder.

2. Shine

2. Shine

Shining means (correctively) cleaning all objects, but also preventing contamination. We do this by eliminating the causes of malfunctions and incidents, such as sources of pollution.

3. Set in order

Set in order means giving the tools a fixed place and organising the workplace in such a way that everyone can find everything quickly and easily. Ergonomics and hygiene are taken into account in the search for a suitable place for the equipment in question.

4. STANDARDISING

Agreements are made together about the first 3 Ss. These agreements are also visualised. This is the guiding principle to ensure that the first 3 S's will remain anchored.

In deze fase wordt ingeregeld dat er audits plaatsvinden en hoe deze worden uitgevoerd teneinde de vorige 4 fases te borgen. Aandacht van management en zelfdiscipline is een belangrijk deel van deze S. pp voor in standhouden.
