Read the experience with 5S Company of Remo, head of logistics at AVR, below.
LET ME INTRODUCE MYSELF
My name is Remo and I am head of logistics at AVR (waste incineration). I am responsible for about 80 employees who take care of all logistic activities in storage, transshipment and transport. In addition, I am co-responsible for ensuring that the logistics activities are properly aligned with the chain.
5S COMPANY AVR LOGISTICS
In logistics, we started with a 5S roll-out to organize the shop floor. It's quite a job at a waste incinerator, but it's already producing results because, for example, materials have a fixed place and people don't have to search.
In addition to 5S, there has been a major improvement process to review the entire chain. This initiative came from the other label: CI-Company. The core group consists of delegates from all departments involved with which an extensive and interactive analysis has been started. After this analysis the actions were defined and we got to work.
EXPERIENCE WITH 5S COMPANY
I have experienced the working method of 5S Company as very nice. There is a mix of different personalities and qualities so they complement each other. It is a party that is sharp, analytical and sincerely interested so they quickly make the right connections, even with half a word. They often analyze in an interviewing way in which they know how to separate main and side issues and gain the trust of the employees.
5S Company has a high drive and will continue when things get tough. In this way, clear results are quickly achieved.
WHAT DOES AVR DO?
AVR is specialized in the processing of various types of residual waste. They convert this waste into energy and raw materials for households and businesses. AVR's ambition is to create a clean world in which nothing remains unused.
AVR has two locations where energy and raw materials are made from waste: Duiven and Rozenburg. There are 4 transfer stations in The Hague, Utrecht and the heart of Rotterdam.
